Hair expert, Dr Shahid Shamsher…..
The water in Bangalore is as good or as bad as anywhere else in the country. In fact in terms of hardness and pollution levels it ranks better than many places in India. However what happens in your case is that the change of water does not suit your scalp.
It would be the same for a resident of Bangalore if he were to relocate to some city in North India. He or she too would experience increased hair loss in the new town and less fall on returning back home. This type of hair loss is known as Telogen Effluvium and in most of such cases the hair adapts to the new environment over a period of 90 days after which the hair fall reduces spontaneously to normal levels.
However there are few exceptions when this does not happen and the hair fall continues unabated. Clearly your case is one such example. In such cases, I have often found there are underlying causes which continue to perpetuate the hair loss. These causes are factors like scalp infections, premature onset of baldness, stress etc.
So while the initial push to the hair loss is given by the change of water, these factors perpetuate it and continue the fall further. In such cases then, the treatment approach is to detect and also treat these underlying factors and you will find that the hair loss will come under control, even though you continue to stay in Bangalore and use its water.
